Literate R Rating

Dysaix was a country from a chaotic world populated primarily by humans as is the common theme in many worlds. However, the upper class rarely needed extensive effort to prove their privileged selves. It's pretty hard to tell a man transformed to a large, angry-looking beast "no" after all. Anthropomorphic creatures (furries) of all kinds are regarded as valuable members of society, rarely do they find themselves on the other side of the spectrum. Along with furries making up the nobility, there is also a sect of mages expressly dedicated to the discipline best suited to their homelands. In the case of Dysaix, that would be lavamancing. The society of magicians who work the fabric of the earth beneath their feet as well as the coursing rivers of fire beneath it are known simply as the Vulcanists. Vulcanists share a space near the top up with the anthro nobility, but just as much out of fear as it is of awe and respect.

When the land was ripped from its foundations several years ago, the people initially panicked thinking that something had triggered their unstable world to fall apart. By the time it reached its place in Kur, the world itself probably had. Things started with chaos until the late king's son managed to restore order and direct the fear into the wooden bridges. Militia parties were quickly organized and disorganized raids were set upon the four surrounding territories. Over time, the young king began organizing military strikes until one of the many failed attacks cost William his life when the bridge was destroyed to stop the force attempting to invade and took the lives of several that fell with him.

The present monarch of Dysaix is the illegitimate heiress of Clan Shane, Elizabeth. Liz is well-known for her love of the drink and her rotten temper. Little is known about Kur to this xenophobic nation, but they do know that there are flying ships and they are curious to discover more about them. Though they have clashing interests given that they fear outsiders yet want and need outside influence in terms of traded items, they are not without their own forms of nourishment.

Dysaix is currently connected to three territories, the fourth bridge was destroyed.
The island's setting is mid-15th century architecture and technology, primarily drawing from the Gaelic disciplines. Though this is the case, it supports technology from as late as the late 18th century.
Caution is recommended when visiting this island, the unstable landscape causes random seismic and volcanic activity. Most eruptions are just small geysers of lava, but all quakes should be treated as a volcano preparing to awaken under your feet.
All characters welcome: Modern era characters not recommended given the limitation to their advanced technologies.

Food in Dysaix is not as scarce as one might assume, but few outside the country would want to eat it. Plantlife such as fruits, vegetables and various flowers often smell and taste like ash. Meat, even raw, tastes as though it were burnt to a crisp. Due to the harsh conditions, sweet foods do not exist and salty foods are extremely rare and considered a delicacy. The most common flavor of food is bitter, after that is sour. Offering sweet foods in Dysaix is considered an insult because the natives cannot tolerate the alien flavor.

Creatures of Dysaix:
Dragons: Contrary to the romanticized titans of immeasurable power, wealth and intelligence as depicted in society, Dysaix dragons are more like pack animals. They are of basic intelligence, but are still capable of breathing fire. The average dragon is shy of the size of a grown horse and has six legs on which they use to move. Well-trained dragons become the mounts on which warriors ride into battle, making them a formidable opponent given that ordinary humans are not expecting the soldier's mouth to be attacking as well as the infantry. Flying dragons do not exist in Dysaix.
Salamanders: Salamanders are very similar to the lizard modern people think of when the name is mentioned. They are, however, this world's version of the Dragon. Salamanders range from the tiny lizard to great beasts the size of a house. They do not breathe fire, but they do exhale a toxic smog when aggravated and the lava resistant slime coating their skin is also venomous. They do not normally have treasure hordes, but they are brilliant and majestic creatures in Dysaix. Salamanders have been recorded as able to fly, but this is through complex magical spells, no salamander has wings.
Elemental (A): The name "Elemental" has two meanings in Dysaix, this is the first. An Elemental is exactly what one assumes to be an elemental. They are spirits of the element from which their body is fashioned. Unlike ordinary elementals, these ones are capable of assuming human--often a morphable anthro--form. They do not have real eyes, but the lights that are created to imitate eyes for the humans' sake are very convincing. Elementals are considered children of the Gods of this land. When an Elemental is identified, they are often taken straight to meet with the Queen and further pampered and worshiped there.
Elemental (B): The other kind of Elemental is what is normally called an Elementalist. Rather than add "Ist" at the end, these naturals of elemental magic are simply regarded as the offspring of an Elemental. This causes the common folk to confuse them for real Elementals frequently.

Dysaix has a capitol city Sinyd. Inside of this city is the Royal Palace where the leader of the nation resides. There is also a nearby Fire Temple at which the Queen and her foster mother frequently pay their respects to the fallen family and friends lost to their old home and their new one.

Little is known of Liz's intentions, but she has been better organizing her forces. It is clear she intends to begin invading enemy territories, but there is no clear evidence as to what her goal may be by the end of it. Queen Elizabeth seeks to expand her kingdom into a floating isle empire, As difficult as it has proven to be, she is confident that her people will succeed.

Fire Territory Island: The Dysaix Kingdom [L, R] Empty

There was a loud, rumbling bear growl from deep within the halls of Dysaix's capitol city. The source of it let out another growl that turned out to be the yawning of a fresh-out-of-bed bear woman. Her breastplate was hanging precariously from her body, but amazingly maintaining her decency to some degree. Most men around here would be quite excited to see their queen so disheveled considering early in the morning was about the only time one could catch her looking so vulnerable. She finished a simple morning ritual of adjusting her armor and adjusting herself back into it before she headed out toward her throne room. After the last incursion attempting to seize a foothold into one of the neighboring islands, the Council--and her adopted mother--had the bear confined to the Halls. They didn't think she was wrong in her efforts, but she was getting too reckless for their tastes and they were rather short on heirs at the moment.

There was a groan from inside her room, one of three men she'd been drinking with last night finally coming to. It wasn't an abnormal thing to find Elizabeth with partners in the morning. The ironic part was that it was nothing like what would normally be assumed. It was a thorough understanding that Liz had no lovers, only drinking mates. Sore and roughed up was a result of drinking and fighting amongst her and the three companions she often brought back with her. Before a very violent denial, rumors used to circulate that the Queen was of looser morals and that being one of her three drinking companions each night entailed more than just time with the Queen. After that she stayed consistent with her friends and now the rumor was various romantic implications with any one of the three. There always had to be rumors to tell of, and Liz had made it quite clear she was only ever going to sleep with one man if she could help it. Much to the chagrin of the Council, she had yet to find the one that she wanted.

"Ye been drinkin' too much again, Lass." Liz sat at the throne with as much calm as she could muster. Just nearing the regal seat bugged her. It was three times the size of a normal human throne since it was designed to accommodate the leader transforming at any time. Currently, it was bears running Dysaix. The Shane Clan bears, to be precise. She smiled wanly at her aging mother, leaning back in the throne and grunting with irritation. "Ah dunnae wan' t'be 'ere, mum. We need to cross those bridges. We need to expand the territory and save 'em all from 'emselves." That wasn't entirely true, but whatever had Liz so dead set on taking over the territories surrounding them, she kept it from everyone. She worried that if anybody else got in on it, it would get them killed. Or her taken from the throne and a new clan taking the reins. She wouldn't mind leaving the politics, but she was leading right now and she felt nobody else could face the coming threat like she could. She highly doubted anybody was going to find out about her knowledge until it was too late. "Ah need t'be alone a while Ma. Please understand." Her mother frowned, but still nodded in compliance.

"Aye, as always. Yer gon' work yerself to death one day, lass. Try not to leave me alone." The Queen of Dysaix winced, but nodded. "Ah'll do everythin' ah kin so ye don' end up alone, Ma. But Ah need t'get back into the fight. Or run abroad. There's gotta be somethin' out there we kin use. Somethin' t'cross the ways without bridges." She sighed and shook her head slowly, massaging at her temples. "Ah'll talk to the Council later. They gotta understand. Ah'm not some thick, deluded brat." Her mother smiled, nodded, and turned to leave.

"Stay safe, 'Liz'bith. Don' take the risk if it ain' worth dyin fer." She stated, coming back to kiss her adopted daughter on the forehead, then leave her to her thoughts and misery as requested. Liz only smiled at the kindness, closing her eyes as she tried to calm down and focus on playing the politics game for a while. If worst came to worst, she was going to find a way to rally the people to discredit the Council. She couldn't believe she was plotting such a demented thing, but the alternative meant everyone died. So many terrible things could go wrong on Dysaix, along with the new alien threats from across the mysterious wooden bridges now bordering her nation. How had this happened? An entire nation ripped from its earthen home and dropped off in a floating archipelago. She hadn't seen the peak of their travel, but those that had reported seeing tens of thousands of islands just like this one. Not all of them were connected, it seemed to have certain sets of chains together. Four different sections to be exact. She still was leery about those claims. It was hard to see anything when she'd been looking around and somehow these people who happened to live by the border could spot the gaps without bridges? She knew they had some sharp-eyed folk, but she couldn't believe they were that sharp.
