Dysaix was a country from a chaotic world populated primarily by humans as is the common theme in many worlds. However, the upper class rarely needed extensive effort to prove their privileged selves. It's pretty hard to tell a man transformed to a large, angry-looking beast "no" after all. Anthropomorphic creatures (furries) of all kinds are regarded as valuable members of society, rarely do they find themselves on the other side of the spectrum. Along with furries making up the nobility, there is also a sect of mages expressly dedicated to the discipline best suited to their homelands. In the case of Dysaix, that would be lavamancing. The society of magicians who work the fabric of the earth beneath their feet as well as the coursing rivers of fire beneath it are known simply as the Vulcanists. Vulcanists share a space near the top up with the anthro nobility, but just as much out of fear as it is of awe and respect.
When the land was ripped from its foundations several years ago, the people initially panicked thinking that something had triggered their unstable world to fall apart. By the time it reached its place in Kur, the world itself probably had. Things started with chaos until the late king's son managed to restore order and direct the fear into the wooden bridges. Militia parties were quickly organized and disorganized raids were set upon the four surrounding territories. Over time, the young king began organizing military strikes until one of the many failed attacks cost William his life when the bridge was destroyed to stop the force attempting to invade and took the lives of several that fell with him.
The present monarch of Dysaix is the illegitimate heiress of Clan Shane, Elizabeth. Liz is well-known for her love of the drink and her rotten temper. Little is known about Kur to this xenophobic nation, but they do know that there are flying ships and they are curious to discover more about them. Though they have clashing interests given that they fear outsiders yet want and need outside influence in terms of traded items, they are not without their own forms of nourishment.
Dysaix is currently connected to three territories, the fourth bridge was destroyed.
The island's setting is mid-15th century architecture and technology, primarily drawing from the Gaelic disciplines. Though this is the case, it supports technology from as late as the late 18th century.
Caution is recommended when visiting this island, the unstable landscape causes random seismic and volcanic activity. Most eruptions are just small geysers of lava, but all quakes should be treated as a volcano preparing to awaken under your feet.
All characters welcome: Modern era characters not recommended given the limitation to their advanced technologies.
Food in Dysaix is not as scarce as one might assume, but few outside the country would want to eat it. Plantlife such as fruits, vegetables and various flowers often smell and taste like ash. Meat, even raw, tastes as though it were burnt to a crisp. Due to the harsh conditions, sweet foods do not exist and salty foods are extremely rare and considered a delicacy. The most common flavor of food is bitter, after that is sour. Offering sweet foods in Dysaix is considered an insult because the natives cannot tolerate the alien flavor.
Creatures of Dysaix:
Dragons: Contrary to the romanticized titans of immeasurable power, wealth and intelligence as depicted in society, Dysaix dragons are more like pack animals. They are of basic intelligence, but are still capable of breathing fire. The average dragon is shy of the size of a grown horse and has six legs on which they use to move. Well-trained dragons become the mounts on which warriors ride into battle, making them a formidable opponent given that ordinary humans are not expecting the soldier's mouth to be attacking as well as the infantry. Flying dragons do not exist in Dysaix.
Salamanders: Salamanders are very similar to the lizard modern people think of when the name is mentioned. They are, however, this world's version of the Dragon. Salamanders range from the tiny lizard to great beasts the size of a house. They do not breathe fire, but they do exhale a toxic smog when aggravated and the lava resistant slime coating their skin is also venomous. They do not normally have treasure hordes, but they are brilliant and majestic creatures in Dysaix. Salamanders have been recorded as able to fly, but this is through complex magical spells, no salamander has wings.
Elemental (A): The name "Elemental" has two meanings in Dysaix, this is the first. An Elemental is exactly what one assumes to be an elemental. They are spirits of the element from which their body is fashioned. Unlike ordinary elementals, these ones are capable of assuming human--often a morphable anthro--form. They do not have real eyes, but the lights that are created to imitate eyes for the humans' sake are very convincing. Elementals are considered children of the Gods of this land. When an Elemental is identified, they are often taken straight to meet with the Queen and further pampered and worshiped there.
Elemental (B): The other kind of Elemental is what is normally called an Elementalist. Rather than add "Ist" at the end, these naturals of elemental magic are simply regarded as the offspring of an Elemental. This causes the common folk to confuse them for real Elementals frequently.
Dysaix has a capitol city Sinyd. Inside of this city is the
Royal Palace where the leader of the nation resides. There is also a nearby
Fire Temple at which the Queen and her foster mother frequently pay their respects to the fallen family and friends lost to their old home and their new one.
Little is known of Liz's intentions, but she has been better organizing her forces. It is clear she intends to begin invading enemy territories, but there is no clear evidence as to what her goal may be by the end of it. Queen Elizabeth seeks to expand her kingdom into a floating isle empire, As difficult as it has proven to be, she is confident that her people will succeed.
